Elizabeth Miller

April 16, 2024 By The Town of Hingham

The Town of Hingham is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Miller as a full-time Social Worker in the Health Department. As an experienced professional, she is connecting residents to community supports and essential behavioral and mental health resources. Miller’s expertise in substance abuse disorder treatment is an asset to Hingham residents seeking guidance in that space.

Miller brings a wealth of experience and passion for community well-being, making her an excellent addition to the Town of Hingham’s Health Department. In the expanded, now full-time role, she will play a crucial part in fostering a healthier and more connected community by implementing programs and initiatives for all residents.

Hingham recognizes the pressing need to address the challenges associated with substance use and is committed to providing comprehensive support to its residents. Hingham was granted up to $1.8 million through national opioid settlements, which helps fund this full-time position and prevention and awareness campaigns. Miller’s role is pivotal in bridging the gap between those in need and the numerous resources available right within the community.

“Hingham is a tight-knit town with a wealth of resources. My role is to connect those with a challenge to services, groups, and organizations within their community. I look forward to holding weekly open office hours at the Hingham Library and meeting residents. May a person have challenges finding resources for an aging parent, food insecurity, or substance abuse, I am ready to help,” shared Miller who has her bachelor’s degree in social work from Bridgewater State University.

Key responsibilities of Hingham’s social worker include: 1. Resource Connection: Working diligently to connect residents with relevant resources, ensuring they have access to the support and services necessary for their well-being. 2. Coordination of Services: Collaborating with other Town Departments to provide wrap-around services to citizens in need. 3. Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery: Hosting community outreach programs, fostering awareness about substance use disorder, reducing stigma, and encouraging individuals to seek treatment.

4. Supportive Network Building: Actively working towards building a supportive network within the community, promoting a sense of belonging and understanding for all residents in need.

By 2035, older residents will make up 39% of Hingham’s total population. Connecting this group with the resources they need to thrive and stay healthy is an important part of Hingham’s social work agenda.
