QUINCY – Two moms who started a movement celebrating the city's growing diversity will host the third annual Quincy Multicultural Festival this Saturday at Pageant Field. The free event features food trucks, dance and music performances and educational displays representing world cultures.

The family-friendly festival runs from noon to 4 p.m. on May 11 at Pageant Field in Quincy.

Co-founded by Michaela Rusu and Shiv Singh, the Quincy Multicultural Festival highlights "the unique beauty of every culture," according to the event's webpage.

"We are thrilled once again to unite our community," Rusu said. "This event celebrates the diversity that makes Quincy such a vibrant and welcoming place to live."

"We're grateful to the Quincy community for its warm welcome and support over the last two years," Singh said. "Thanks to their encouragement, we're returning for a bigger and better third year." Both founders thanked Quincy Public Schools and the city for their support.

Rusu told The Patriot Ledger that performances at the Ruth Gordon amphitheater will continue throughout the entirety of the four-hour festival. Some highlights include a lion dance, a Kung Fu demonstration, Indian and Vietnamese dance, a hip hop performance and more.

A number of food trucks will be on hand, including González Food Truck (Mexican), Thyme Travelling, Wanderlust (global street food), an ice cream truck and a mocktail station, Rusu said.

Kids will enjoy a number of activities, including face painting, balloon twisting, bubbles and henna temporary body art.

In addition, attendants can visit educational displays about 26 different cultures from around the world, Rusu said.

Rusu said there is a parking lot next to Pageant Field, with additional spaces on the side of Merrymount Parkway, which leads up to the field. Organizers will also run shuttle buses to and from the festival and four schools where fair attendants can park. These are North Quincy High School, Wollaston Elementary School, Clifford Marshall Elementary School and Snug Harbor Elementary School.

If it rains on Saturday, the event will be moved inside North Quincy High School on the same day and at the same time.
