Teach children how to keep our environment clean by participating in Saturday, April 27's 6th Annual Cohasset Earth Day Clean-Up sponsored by the Town of Cohasset’s Open Space & Recreation Committee. Earth Day was founded in 1970 and is an annual grassroots global movement that celebrates the Earth’s natural resources and promotes environmental awareness and action. Cohasset families and children are asked to pick up non-biodegradable, single-use trash and debris that impact our parks, shorelines, and neighborhoods. To receive a cleaning assignment, stop by the Cohasset Recreation Department at 100 Sohier Street, Cohasset, MA between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Since starting the program six years ago, Cohasset’s Earth Day Clean Up efforts have removed 8,680 pounds of trash from the community. Participants have collected tires, six-pack rings, straws, cans, plastic bottles, clothes, snack bags, trash cans, Styrofoam, fishing line, bottle caps, rope, lobster traps, basketballs and even fencing. The committee will assign participants an area to clean such a street, beach, or recreation park. Trash bags are provided however please bring gloves. All trash collected will be deposited in a dumpster located onsite. People are encouraged to take selfies picking up trash wherever they may be and post to social media using hashtags #KeepCohassetClean #EarthDay2024.
